Enter a Glossy Web
By McKenna Ruebush
This book was the best fantasy story I've read in a while! Georgina (she prefers George), is twelve years old. George's little brother Daniel is lost, and after a several weeks of searching for him, George's parents drop her off at her Aunt and Uncle's house. Aunt Henrietta and Uncle Constantine are fun, kind, and thoughtful adults. George soon becomes close to these relatives, and she enjoys her stay with them. But then Uncle Constantine goes away on a business trip, and, when Uncle Constantine sends George a letter telling her that he needs help, George is puzzled. The not said to find the "eldest of the els". A few minutes later, Aunt Henrietta is kidnapped before George's eyes. With Aunt Henrietta's last piece of advice in mind, to go left, George does, and she finds two orphans, Caleb and Mikal. They join her in her mission to find uncle Constantine, and the group leaves at once. The group learn that a story Uncle Constantine told George was true, and that in order to save the world, they have to get 3 keys and and 3 objects from the world of Astria. They are given Cavendish, the talking map to aid them, and they become the Snaffleharp company. Their adventures take them to many different worlds, and lots of danger, enchantment, and nice monsters. If the snaffleharp company fails to locate the 3 objects, the world will end. Is this group of kids and a talking map ready to take on the pressure of saving the worlds? I loved this book so much! George is such a brave, thoughtful, smart, responsible girl. I think the message in this story is to always believe in yourself, even if other people doubt you. This book is a adventurous exciting story, and the Characters are always moving, and always learning something new. This is a book that both boys and girls with love! I hope you enjoy this book!

Stink and the Solar System Superhero (Stink, Book 5)
By Megan McDonald
Stink is frustrated! He found out that Pluto isn't a planet anymore, and Pluto is his Favorite planet. He meets a new friend named Skunk who is also very upset about this. Riley Rottenberger is really happy that Pluto got thrown out of the solar system and keeps bothering Stink and Skunk about it. They start to argue a bunch in class about who is right. The teacher catches them and decides that they should hold a vote to see if Pluto should still be a planet or not. They make t-shirts and signs and a ton of stuff to get people to vote for them. Stink and Skunk win the vote! In their class Pluto will still be considered a planet and now Riley Rottenberger is the one who is upset! This book was interested because it taught you a lot about the solar system. Before reading this book, I didn't know that there are 3 dwarf planets in the solar system, and one of them is Pluto. I would say Jupiter is my favorite planet but mostly because I think it has a cool name.
Patrick Griffin's Last Breakfast on Earth (Patrick Griffin and the Three Worlds)
By Ned Rust
Patrick has always found it difficult to fit in, but he's never had to fit in with a whole different universe! When 12 year old Patrick Griffith is caught into another world, he must find his way through a new way of reading, government, and different names for everyday objects. In the meantime, while Patrick was transported into a new universe, some objects from other universes end up on Earth as well! As all three universes intertwine, it becomes clear that something is amiss. I personally loved Patrick's character, and he had a certain charm while still being sarcastic/sassy, and he wasn't washed out by the large cast of characters, plot lines, and universes. One criticism I would have is that on the world Patrick was transported too was slightly too different from Earth. I found it hard to follow at some points, and while the length of the book allowed for the necessary world building to occur, it dragged at some points as a result. In specific, when Ith changed the way that words were read, but yet had the same language, I found it slightly hard to believe. Overall, however, I found the world fascinating with intriguing characters and the author was able to balance the various plot lines very well!
Alistair Grim's Odd Aquaticum
By Gregory Funaro
"..But to me he was very much more than special. In fact, I'd wager there wasn't another father like mine in the whole wide world." Finding out that Alistair Grim, inventor of the Odditorium, was your father would be quite a surprise for any young lad - but Grubb, an orphaned, "ordinary" chimney sweep really can't seem to wrap his head around it.. But here, next to all the Odditoria and kindly magical creatures, Grubb knows that he is truly happy, for he has found his true home.. That is, if there wasn't a looming threat in the form of the villainous Prince Nightshade, who seeks revenge after the adventures of the first volume in the series, and is right on the tails of Alistair Grim and his crew. If his army of Shadesmen (otherwise known as the walking dead) obtain enough "animus" to rise onto the lands of Earth, Prince Nightshade will be indestructible.. and the only thing standing in his way is a master plan formulated by Alistair Grim, involving a crucial sword from the depths of Arthurian legend - the infamous Excalibur, hidden deep inside the beautiful, but dangerous underwater kingdom of Avalon. Grubb and his friends will have to battle their way through terrible creatures seeking revenge for the magical sword - but at what cost? Will Excalibur have the power to vanquish the terrible Prince Nightshade, once and for all? Please read this spectacularly written book to find out.. Well, the truth is, I already had fallen in love with this book before I even got to the first page.. I cannot express how much I love the "steampunk" genre, and this was a particularly rare find! This book was quite dark at times, especially since this book dug so deeply into the desires of the rather interesting villain, Prince Nightshade.. but mostly it was pretty cheerful, subtly exploring the relationship between Alistair and Grubb, revealing how classic Arthurian elements tied in with the story in general, and introducing a whole cast of well-developed, colorful and vivid characters.. The ending left me yearning for more books to devour - more books with chocolate-loving fairies and mischievous banshees with soft sides and most of all, kindly chimney sweeps with loving fathers.. What a wonderfully magical read - my hat is off to author Gregory Funaro!

The Boy Who Swam with Piranhas
By David Almond
The Boy Who Swam with Piranhas is an interesting story about a young orphan, Stan Potts. When Stan's parents died he went to live with his Uncle Ernie and Aunt Annie. But then Ernie lost his job, and became an entrepreneur, starting his own business in his home-canning fish. He cans fish and Stan is trapped inside the house-turned-factory. Ernie is out of control. One day Ernie does something cruel and so Stan runs away, to a carnival. He finds a new family, and is being taught new things. Then he gets the ultimate offer. Will he swim with piranhas? Will he go home? What will happen to young Stan Potts? This is one of those stories where you can't tell what genre it is. The Boy Who Swam with Piranhas is a mix of fantasy and realistic fiction. This is a book clearly meant for younger kids, although there are questionable parts where parents may not want their kids to read about. This is a book about family struggles, destiny, and finding yourself.
