Nick and Tesla's Solar-Powered Showdown: A Mystery with Sun-Powered Gadgets You Can Build Yourself

Nick and Tesla's Solar-Powered Showdown: A Mystery with Sun-Powered Gadgets You Can Build Yourself

By Bob Pflugfelder, Steve Hockensmith

Beware: You'll immediately be wanting to do these DIY projects enlisted in the book below. So Nick and Tesla literally did the impossible... and I mean what else is next??? Am I right... well they need to find their parents, whom have been quite absent throughout the first couple of books, but the thing is they have no idea where their parents are located.... DUN DUN DUNNNNNN... now I just wrote the intro and it already has a cliff hanger... yes believe me... you'll find Nick and Tesla's parents... but we first need your wits in order to read this book and get inside this adventure with them... I loved how the author incorporated facts that have to do with the real world of science... and the DIY's were awesome... On Youtube, I'm always awed at what others can do when they post DIY videos... but there's only one problem... I rarely make anything... however when I read this book I was enhanced by the different technology that this setting was placed and you could make a secret listening device, a hot dog cooker, and much more... the hot dog cooker is such a creative mechanism that is on my To Do List... Now I'm a little off topic... however... I really loved this fast read... One word of advice... remember all characters even though they might seem foreign especially (SPOILERS) a specific agent... Sorry I had to... But people who are amazed in our technology and wants to invest in our technology world... because you never know... our world (later in 2050-3000) might turn into a set in Nick and Tesla's book series... so hope you enjoy!

How to Catch a Bogle

How to Catch a Bogle

By Catherine Jinks

This is a really really great book. How To Catch a Bogle follows Birdie, a 10 year old orphan, is taken in by Alfred, a "bogler", or killer of bogles. He calls it "getting rid of pests". Bogles are monsters. Birdie's job is very dangerous, just one wrong move and she could be killed. But she gets by, and she knows she's better off than being a beggar or a "tosher" who roams the sewers. Then she's offered another life, a life as a singer with Miss Eames. Birdie is torn. I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was well put together, it hooks you in right from the start. It has adventure, drama, and even some glamor and romance. Something I loved about this book was how it makes you feel. It makes you feels Birdie's frustration or anger, it makes you understand how she feels. The only negative thing about this book is it contains some mild language and drinking, also it be frightening for young children. I'd reccommend it for 10 +. Happy reading!

Space Rocks!

Space Rocks!

By Tom O'Donnell

Although it does drag on in the first 5-6 chapters, "Space Rocks" is a hilarious, grasping read with incredible plot twists. Chorkle is part of the Xotonian race living in Gelo, an asteroid that, until a couple of months ago, has never been invaded by anyone, let alone humans. When Chorkle spots some human offspring in Jehe Canyon, little does he know that these four little fur-heads would change Xotonian history forever. Within the next few months, he accidentally causes their mothership to have an emergency take-off (all because of Feeney’s Original Astronaut Ice Cream!) and the four little two-eyed humans are left stranded on Gelo. Chorkle tries to help them out...but what would you do if a five-eyed alien who deserted you in space offers his guidance? On an epic attempt of survival, Chorkle leads Becky, a bossy twelve-year-old who hates Chorkle the moment she lays her eyes on him; Nicky, Becky's identical twin who's obsessed with fungi (although she does have her ways with computers); Hollins, a thirteen-year-old boy who doesn't stop quoting Teddy Roosevelt; and Little Gus, who is simply awesomeness wrapped up in a ten-year-old. With Chorkle's help, these four find a way to keep breathing their beloved oxygen, fight ferocious thyss cats, and hide from the rest of the Xotonians who would surely imprison them if they were to find them. On top of all that, they eventually become oog-ball legends, go to the top of Dynusk’s Column, and even get to ride Usk Lizards!

Malcolm at Midnight

Malcolm at Midnight

By W. H. Beck

Malcolm is a rat undergoing a bit of an identity crisis, you see. Everyone thinks him a mouse because of his size, so he has gone from being on sale as python food to a comfy classroom pet. Then he meets the Midnight Academy during his first adventure outside the classroom. They are a secret society of classroom pets dedicated to keeping the kids of the school safe. They automatically assume he is a mouse too. His rat pride is yelling at him to tell them he is a rat, but rats have a terrible reputation: they are lying, skiving, thieving and selfish rats. When the Midnight Academy takes him on as a pledge, Malcolm is determined to prove that rats can be good too (excusing his lying about being a mouse), and tries really hard to be the fifth-grader he wants to be, one with merit and valor! However, almost everything he does leads the Midnight Academy’s second in command to think he is working with Snip - the cat who is terrorizing their school. And when Aggy the Iguana - the leader of the Midnight Academy - is kidnapped and all evidence points to him, he is locked in his cage. But Malcolm has nutter (kid) friends too and now it’s up to him (with encouragement from the nutters) to stop Snip from carrying out his evil plan, whatever that may be, find Aggy, be the fifth-grader he wants to be, and find Mr. Benny’s engagement ring. This book is a brilliant mystery and has characters with fully developed personalities. I think it will really appeal to fans of Humphrey the Hamster and other stories about animal/bug heroes. It is full of wit, humor, distrust and is all about learning who you really are and being who you want to be. After all, a critter reveals his true self at midnight.

This book is about 2 kids, Ben and Pearl, trying to catch a sasquatch that was being treated for foot fungus at Dr. Woo's worm hospital. But the worm hospital is not only for worms, but also for creatures from the Imaginary World. When Ben finds himself going to his grandpa's house for the summer in Buttonville so his parents could sort things out, Ben was not the happiest man on earth. Popular Clone: The Clone Chronicles #1

Popular Clone: The Clone Chronicles #1

By M.E. Castle

Fisher Bas is a 6th grader who gets tormented by a group of three kids that he calls the Vikings. They are always waiting for him, to bash him on the head with the biggest book they can find, give him a swirly or something else along those lines. One day, Fisher just gets tired of it. So he comes up with a solution-cloning himself with the AGH (Advanced Growth Hormones) that his mom invented, which is something that world-known Dr. X(ander, no, I am not kidding! his name is Xander!) wants to get his hands on. After a sleepless weekend, lots of work and many different attempts, Fisher creates his clone. When his clone comes to life, he thinks a woman from a Spot-Rite ad is his mother so Fisher creates a fantasy for his clone to believe-that they are trying to get their mother back and they have to go to a place to train (AKA Middle School) for their enemies. Then, after a few days, Two (Fisher’s clone’s name) becomes more popular than him! He has friends, is known around school and stands up to the Vikings. Can Fisher change Two’s ways before something bad happens and they realize Two is not Fisher? In a wacky middle-grade story of adventure and clones, Fisher strives to be as good as his clone, and fights the evil Dr. X after a very shocking twist in the plot in a wonderful debut. What I thought about it: Popular Clone was a great book. I think this was a strong debut for M.E. Castle, and fans of middle-grade sci-fi will enjoy it. I have been reading a lot of sci-fi lately; Mila 2.0, Cinder, Scarlet–they all have something to do with sciency stuff like clones, androids and cyborgs. I thinking the idea of cloning yourself is interesting-and very complicated. It would be hard to keep a secret that there are two “You’s” out there. I also loved the other science aspects in this book: the inventions that Fisher has created and the Bas’ garden. The tomatos are the size of beach balls, and the bananas are the size of baseball bats. It’s like taking your garden and multiplying the size! Now that is awesome. I loved the drawings throughout the book of Fisher’s inventions-they help you understand what they are talking about/using in the story. Also, the battle at the end was pretty epic, with lots of action and chases. The book ends with a BIG cliffhanger, though. Thankfully I had the second book available BWAHAHA! So overall, a great book for fans of middle-grade stories and adventures. Code of Silence: Living a Lie Comes with a Price (A Code of Silence Novel)

Code of Silence: Living a Lie Comes with a Price (A Code of Silence Novel)

By Tim Shoemaker

He didn't do it. He didn't do it. Honest to God. He didn't do it. But then why is he hiding? Acting like a criminal himself? Cooper and his two friends watched as the men almost killed Frank - the owner of Frank'n'Steins, their favorite place to hang out. They watched them drain his life savings and remove the evidence. And they escaped - with some of the evidence. The criminals want that evidence back, but the cops want it as well. But now Cooper, Hiro and Gordy are bound by their Code of Silence to keep what they saw secret and lie to keep themselves and their families safe. However, the lies inflate and become bigger than they could have imagined when the police come to their school, looking for the mystery 8th grade witness that was spotted right after the incident. Hiro urges Cooper to break the Code and go to the police, but he can't convince himself to do it. The criminals were wearing cop-pants that night. One could be a dirty cop, and then his life would be over, literally. As Gordy struggles to keep their friendship together, Cooper comes up with more and more elaborate plans to keep themselves hidden and still offer what he has to know to the police. He is afraid, they all are. No, they are scared out of their wits - fearing for their lives. But in the final hour, Cooper is forced to face himself: who is he really protecting with the lies? Himself? Or the criminals? I think this is a great read. It's chock full of suspense, mystery, and twists at every corner. It's not as action-packed as I would have liked, especially in the beginning, but it really gets your heart rate up. It's also highly realistic which makes it a tad bit scarier. I think anybody fifth grade and up would enjoy it.
