pudgyjeon's book review was featured in Romeo and Juliet.
Two star-crossed lovers, divided by last name, united in love. There's no clear bad or good, right or wrong side in this play, just a couple trying their hardest to make it work. And, of course in cruel irony, they become the poster children for premature death. And, in between it all is a deep web of sociopolitics, timing, and motives. No wonder most high schoolers have read this in school, because it definitely teaches many lessons. This play is a bit hard to understand, due to it being written in the 1590's, so I would recommend it for an older age group. It also lightly touches on slightly mature themes. However, once you can understand the words of Shakespeare, it truly is a time-withstanding love story.

The dreamy sunset cover, soft and inviting, spoke to me when I was just a fourth grader with my mom's money at the school's book fair. I read it, and of course, loved it. Now, many years later, on summer break, the same book had that air that invited you to read it. And even from a more matured point of view, the book still hit. The main character, Charlie Reese, kicks people and yells and says mean things. Yet, somehow she's still so lovable and you just want to wrap her in a hug. Her family is separated, perhaps being the root of her behavior, and life throws so many curveballs that her life is upside down. But, like a gift from heaven on four legs is Wishbone, an adorable stray to be by her side through it. And, of course, there's the always forgiving Howard. Because kids were so cruel to him that he became the kindest. And between losses, lessons, and endless love, there just is so much good spilling from this book.

kruzingwithk9s's book review was featured in Griffin Speaker.
Rain is an orphan grub. Sitting at the very bottom of the hierarchy, she works at her Aunt Willow’s farm helping with the animals. When she turns 13, she will be sent to spend the rest of her life working in the Tubes to collect Root for those higher up on the hierarchy. Problem being, she has Tube Terror. The dark narrow spaces of the Tubes cause her to panic, though she must hide her fear to avoid being dosed with Med, which turns grubbers into mindless, automated workers. During all this, she hears strange, piercing cries coming from her Aunt’s barn, which she has been ordered, under no circumstances, should she ever enter. You know what they say, “Curiosity kills the cat.” Rain’s curiosity gets the best of her, and upon entering, she finds… a wild griffin? That can’t be right, wild griffins haven’t existed for years. Turns out the wild griffin is being trained to help get Lady Orla, a girl at the very top of the social rung, into the Academy, where students learn to be Griffin Riders who enforce the law. Lady Orla plans to enter the Academy under the “Law Of The Chosen”, which dictates that if a griffin naturally bonds with you, you must be let into the Academy, no matter your rank. However, the griffin has now bonded with Rain, and won’t attach to Lady Orla. This, naturally, causes problems. The Griffin Land authorities hunted and disposed of all wild griffins long ago, and if this griffin won’t bond with Lady Orla, his life is at stake. A whirlwind of decisions leads to Rain deciding to take Griff (as he’s been so named) to get herself into the Academy. However, being a grub, the government isn’t so thrilled with the idea of the Griffin Land Order hierarchy being thrown into chaos. It’s a battle to survive and fight her way though challenges to prove that she, too, should have a choice in how her life should be lived. Overall, one of my favorite books I’ve read in a long time. Once started, it’s very hard to put down. Looking forward to future books in the series. 10/10, recommend for ages 10-15.

deafgirlhistory's book review was featured in Alanna: The First Adventure.
Alanna and Thom, the twin sister and brother who have different dreams; Alanna as a maiden warrior (knight) and Thom as a sorcerer as they came up with a plan; Alanna would cut her hair and would be disguised as a boy. While this plan working out fine for Alanna now aka Alan to the boys at the palace, met the boys; Jonathan, Raoul, George, Alex, and few others. But something really crazy had happened to the group of friends, but what? You'll see! - Happy Reading!
