It's about a girl named Alera who secretly rebels against the tyrant ruler of Smarag'dien, the Burning Flame. One day, she gets caught by the Burning Flame's soldiers, and a mysterious boy named Celaian helps her escape. But then she finds out a horrifying secret that could threaten her life--and the lives of her loved ones.
