Counting Thyme
By Melanie Conklin
Eleven-year-old Thyme (Time with an "hy") and her family has moved from their home in San Diego, California to the big city. New York City. They had to move so Thyme's little brother, Val, who has nerve cancer, can get into a clinical trial to see if doctors can save his life. Thyme is not happy about this. All she can think about is moving back to the only home she's ever known so she can be back at her old school, old friends, and old home. Thyme comes up with a plan to get back to California. Whenever she uses her free-time to do a chore or a task, she gets a time slip. That time slip is a certain amount of time that Thyme gets to cash out to spend time with her mother, or to hog the iPad all to herself. As the story moves along, as Thyme make more and more friendships, the jar she keep the time slips in gets more and more full, her family situation gets more and more tense, and Val's condition gets more and more worse. Thyme has to make a choice. She can either leave her new friends, parents, and sick little brother to go back to a place that truly has nothing to offer her, or she can stay, and realize that all the home she needs is right in New York City. I give this book 5 stars because it is absolutely excellent. Happy reading!
Big Nate: In a Class by Himself
By Lincoln Peirce
I really liked this book. It was awesome! ok...let's get started...So its about this boy named Nate Wright. He faces off Mrs. Godfrey, the social studies teacher, in hopes of skipping the quiz he THINKS he has. But then he learns that he DOESN'T have the quiz and ends up biffing Francis in the head when he says he actually LIKES tests. But when he gets to school, he realizes he forgot his lunch at home: "Its not here! You've gotta be KIDDING me!" I recall him saying, so Teddy shares some of his lunch, which includes a fortune cookie. Nate eats the fortune cookie during class, which causes the class pet, Gina, to call on Mrs. Godfrey who walks up to Nate's desk in order to scold him. Luckily, Nate manages to swallow it before she peeks into his mouth. And guess what fortune he gets out of the cookie? 'YOU WILL SURPASS ALL OTHERS' Says the little slip of paper. Nate was delighted! So he keeps trying in vain to make it happen. You will have to read it yourself to find out if it will or not. I recommend this book for people who enjoy comics.

Splatoon, Vol. 9 (9)
By Sankichi Hinodeya
You would think it isn't possible to outdo yourself after writing eight graphic manga novels. Well, it is. Sankichi Hinodeya has rocked once again with his new debut, Splatoon! Shining as bright as a Gold Dynamo Roller, Team Blue is ready for the Ranked Battle Cup!! Fresh and exciting as spiced calamari, this graphic novel takes you into the world of Inklings, the city of Inkopolis. With Specs out of the game because of a run-in with bees, carefree Goggles needs to find a new team member! And who should it be? After Crusty Sean's shop exploded, Emperor needs to get some money to fix it!! And doge joins team Blue, now Team Bluperor! Together, with Spec's encouragement, they face Team Green in Blackbelly Skate Park in a Tower Defense! And here is more news! After having a run-in with bees while picking ingredients for his curry, poor Army can't compete. So who fills in for him? Rider, who has been waiting forever for this day!! And annoyingly, he has to try not to bicker with Aloha! UGH!! After going against team Worker's Head Towel, Team Bluperor is ready for more opponents. With silliness, triumph, and never doubting yourself, this manga is perfect for readers of all types, along with those who have a hatred of reading books! With bonus manga and an Inkling Almanac to meet your characters, this book is engaging and beautifully written. Pat on the back, Sankichi Hinodeya! You deserve five stars!

Granted
By John Anderson
Do you believe in wishing? If not, you will now. Ophelia Delphinium Fidgets is a Granter, a fairy that grants wishes except...she hasn't granted any wishes yet. But the rate of fairy dust has been going down lately, and they won't be able to grant a lot of wishes. So 12 are chosen, by the Great Tree itself. And Ophelia is one of the 12 that will grant one of the wishes. She goes on a long and desperate journey, finding that the outside world is much more dangerous than meets the eye. From befriending a stray dog, to almost getting killed by a plane, Ophelia survives all her difficulties but she must make a choice. A choice that might kill the Great Tree and change the fate of the Granters. I would recommend this for ages 10+ This was so cute and the pace was perfect! The characters were so unique and fun. I loved how the author explained things it made everything very interesting. This could still use some improvement but still such a lovely book. Granted reminded me so much of the book Disenchanted and Ms. Hickory! Would definitely recommend this.
