100 Cupboards: Book 1 of the 100 Cupboards
By N. D. Wilson
When Henry York's parents are kidnapped and held for ransom in Columbia, Henry goes to his aunt and uncle's house in Henry, Kansas to stay with them until his parents are rescued or released. He sees his cousins that he hasn't visited in years. Penny, caring and protective, Henrietta, strong-willed and dramatic, and Anastasia, sneaky and loose-lipped. One night, Henry finds something underneath the cracking plaster of his bedroom wall. He scrapes the crumbling plaster off until finally he finds 98 odd looking cupboards of all shapes and sizes. Henrietta finds him and insists he include her in his discoveries. They are able to open a few, but most are locked. Meanwhile, their late grandfather's room has been locked for two years, and nothing can get through into his bedroom. Not even an attempt to rip through the door with a chainsaw. Henry and Henrietta find their grandfather's journals and learn more and more about the cupboards. They find a key that can unlock their grandfather's room, and inside, they find yet another cupboard, big enough for a person to fit through. They learn that they can go through this cupboard to the other worlds beyond the 98 cupboards in Henry's wall. But not all the cupboards are filled with nice things. Some are filled with intense and complete evil. Henry and Henrietta need help. Quick.

Dying to Meet You (43 Old Cemetery Road)
By Kate Klise
Oh my goodness! I loved this book a lot! As I got more into the book I started to get frustrated with Mr. Grumply because Olive was trying her very best to be be nice to him and help him out, but Mr. Grumply continued to think it was Seymour and said he did not believe in ghosts. But when he finally believed, I felt happier. I also thought it was not fair that they thought Mr. Grumply was losing his mind because Olive was real alright, so I just wish they would believe! I thought the end was the best part, because Mr. Grumply really changed and it made me feel good. But it was very sad how he was losing Olive as a friend. But in the end when Olive said she was going to leave, I was like "SERIOUSLY! No! Olive can't leave, that would be terrible!" But I am glad she stayed and they became a happy family. So overall I LOVED this book, and definitely recommend this to a reader who wants a feel good story.
The Phantom of the Post Office (43 Old Cemetery Road)
By Kate Klise
This was a really great addition to the 43 Old Cemetery Road series. It is the fourth book in the series and personally one of my favorites. Something mysterious is happening in Ghastly. The age of letters is coming to an end and the post office in shutting down. There is something in mailbox 5 writing letters to The Spence Mansion and calling itself and phantom. But the end may lead to a shocking secret, and envy. Also, the boy makes and new friend. This book is mysterious and exciting at the same way. Told in transcripts, newspaper clippings, letters, and pictures, it will leave you one the edge of your seat the whole time.
Three Pennies
By Melanie Crowder
What would you do if you lost the only family member you had? What would you do if you found out your mother didn't want you? You’ll have to read T hree Pennies By:Melanie Crowde r to find out more. Marin is a foster child that has gone from home to home, the couple of things she takes with her from home to home are her Three pennies, Her small copy of the I Ching and her piggy bank with a single dime inside. She's been trying to find her mother her whole life, she has one last chance before she loses her forever. One of the only memories of her mother is laying the grass on her blanket and her mother's head blocking the sun for hitting her head. Marin travels from foster home to foster home before possibly finding her forever home. This book will put you on the edge of your seat! Poor Marin was put into the foster system when she was just four because her mother abandoned her. Her mother is the antagonist in this story. How would you feel if your parent abandoned you when you were just four and still hasn't made an effort to see you in seven years. I’d recommend this book to 6-8 graders, it's a very sensitive topic and kids that are younger might not understand the things marin goes through like, Bouncing from foster home to foster home and not having a mother.
