The Genius Files: Mission Unstoppable

The Genius Files: Mission Unstoppable

By Dan Gutman

Novel Pending

This book was surprisingly good. My family and I go on lots of long car trips and we like to listen to audiobooks, but it can be very difficult to find stories that match all of our interests. Since this site is just for the book itself I won't rate the audiobook itself (read by Micheal Goldstrom) but I have to say it was delivered wonderfully. I also won't go into the plot either because, for one thing, there's a summary right there, and I don't want to spoil anything. The Genius Files, as a series overall, can get monotonous. You could say the story is broken into chapter clusters, which all go about the same way. The McDonalds have been driving for hours when Mrs. McDonald suddenly announces an oddball tourist trap that she can use on her popular and ridiculous site, Amazing but True. Dr. McDonald, Coke, and Pepsi all protest, but end up following along anyway. Somehow or another, the twins get separated from their parents and are confronted by their health teacher, Mrs. Higgins, or the nefarious "Bowler Dudes" who attempt to kill them in an absurd way, (including being trapped in a burning school, getting buried alive in the Singing Sand Dunes, getting lowered into a bubbling vat of SPAM, getting shocked to death with electricity, lowered into boiling oil, and having a variety of things dropped onto their heads including a chest of drawers, a concrete brain, and a dead cow.) but they escape, and Coke rips his shirt in the process. Despite the cookie-cutter format, it can be said that the book is full of tidbit trivia, spot-on humor, and defiant action. I would recommend to upper-elementary kids and families looking to have a good time. I would give it four and a half stars, but say in this instance, it rounds up.

By John Steven Gurney (Illustrator) by Ron Roy

I decided to start this series because i like mysteries. I read the first one and i was hooked so far i have everyone in my school library and hoping to read the last few. The first one is about this 3rd grader named Dink and his friends Josh and Ruth Rose who are always the main characters. He is going to see his favorite kids mystery writer named Wallis Wallace and in the letter to Dink it says that he will be there unless he is kidnapped but then Wallis dosen't show up at the book signing! the police say he just missed his flight ,but Dink knows what really happened!

Lemons

Lemons

By Melissa Savage

Have you ever seen Bigfoot? Tobin Sky plans to. Lemonade LIberty Witt is a girl whose mom has recently passed away, and now she must live with her grandfather, Charlie. Here she meets Tobin Sky, CEO of Bigfoot Detectives Inc. After taking the oath, Lem is now an assistant at Bigfoot Detective Inc. They may have a clue when a resident of Willow Creek calls. Every clue gets Lem closer to solving the Bigfoot mystery, and accepting her new family. This was a cool book, with an interesting idea. I have never read a fictional book on the topic of Bigfoot. The characters were also very interesting. However, at time you cannot relate to the characters very well. You should try this book!

Mercy Watson to the Rescue

Mercy Watson to the Rescue

By Kate DiCamillo

When the Watsons bed starts to sink through the roof, Mercy jumps off. The Watsons assume she is going off to get help, however Mercy has other plans. The neighbors get annoyed by Mercy, so they call for help. This leads to the people they called for help discovering that the Watsons bed is going through the roof. The Watsons assume that Mercy intentionally did that, however all she wanted were sugar cookies. Mercy is a hero. Overall, I think that this book was hilarious, and the illustrations were so funny. I recommend this to people who enjoy comedy, or people who enjoy the other books by this author. I rate this book 5/5.

Vampirates: Empire of Night

Vampirates: Empire of Night

By Justin Somper

Holy Cow!!! My favorite in the series yet, by far. I can`t believe how Justin Somper came up with such a great idea for a book series! I`m surprised its not more popular- I think it is better then Percy Jackson or Harry Potter (which are both amazing book series, too)

Dark Life: Book 1

Dark Life: Book 1

By Kat Falls

Dark life by Kat Falls This book is about a guy named Ty and his girlfriend named Gemma. They encounter lots of earth shattering earthquakes so the only way to survive underwater. On their journey they meet a lot of their friends trapped underwater. By now your probably thinking how do they breath underwater well they have suits with rebreathers on them so they can live deep under water. For food and water they go to sunken ships that where there from the Beginning by that I mean the Rebels with big submarines shoot down other submarines and scavenger bots. If you are still wondering if there are huge monsters in deep blue yes. Maybe there are some still in our ocean today but they encounter big heavyweight giants that swim but don't eat but megalodon does. Rebels are people who scavenge around for food. They are basically people from the apocalypse but they are saine at the same time. If they were to go up to the surface they would deal with some pretty bad radiation sickness. But there very little chances you could survive because there are lots of tsunamis happening which break the floor and causes immediate volcanic eruption. In this book they live in the ocean because the world has basically ended and the only way to survive is to go underwater. The protagonists of the book are Ty and Gemma, the antagonist of the book would probably be the raiders or the Rebels. The one major conflict is that they have trouble surviving and the other major conflict is that most of there things get taken by the raiders.Ty tried his best by gathering food and shelters for other people, and they can't really do anything to the raiders because they have armor, guns, food, medicine, and men (lots of them).Personally I liked the book because it was sort of my type of book what I mean by that it is a fictional book. But I highly recommend this book for kids who can read with speed because I just barely finished the book in time. Magisterium: The Golden Tower (The Magisterium)

Magisterium: The Golden Tower (The Magisterium)

By Cassandra Clare (author) Holly Black (author)

This is a really good book, I loved it and all the other books in the series. This is the final book in the Magisterium series and it was the perfect ending. Call finally tells Tamara his feelings about her and is surprised to hear the answer. He is so desperate because he doesn't know what to do so he turns to advice from Jasper! Call, Tamara, Jasper, their newfound friend Gwenda, Call's dad, and, though no one knows it, Aaron, go on an adventure together to figure out how to win one last battle. I definitely recommend this to any middle schooler who loves fantasy.

The Thief of Always: A Fable

The Thief of Always: A Fable

By Clive Barker

In this book, Harvey and Wendall are two kids who are really bored, and are taken to a house during holiday. They discover that the house has magic. They try to escape the house, but discover that everything in the house are illusions, including the people. Every day in the house was a year. Another character, Mr. Hood, is trying to persuade Harvey to become his Apprentice by giving him what he desires, but Harvey refuses. The book is interesting, it can be scary with lots of weird creatures. But, this may be a good experience for readers to inspire them to read fantasy titles. Fantasy books are special. *Warning* there is some language in this book...but it is still a good book.
