This is an awesome book. It's about a boy who ends up having to go to either jail or a camp where they dig holes because he "committed" a crime. He chooses the camp and finds out the reason why they dig holes and ends up digging a fortune that his grandfather left him. You should definitely read this awesome book.
If you were framed for stealing a pair of shoes which are owned by a person very famous, what do you think would happen? This happens to Stanley Yelnats - whose last name is his first backward, and vice-versa - and is sentenced to attend Camp Green Lake, a camp to reform child criminals. When he gets there, he faces a harsh life of digging holes every day. While digging, if you are to find something, you are to report it and will receive extra shower tokens and will not have to dig the rest of your hole. This exactly what happens to Stanley. He finds something, but he gives it to his friend to act like he found it. Stanley soon befriends many of the people in his cabin, especially Zero. Stanley teaches Zero how to read and write, and in turn, Zero digs part of Stanley’s daily hole. Eventually, they are caught and Zero runs away. Stanley, being a good friend away to in the hopes of finding him. In due course, they meet and travel up a mountain. When they come back down, they find the lost treasure. Once they get the money, they also find’s Zero’s mom who left him at a park when she went to do something, but couldn’t find him afterward. This book was very good.
This is a strange book and I was slightly confused when I first read it, but I figured the plot out. When I realized what it was about, I was so interested. It captivated my attention really quick. The book is both mysterious and funny at the same time. I love the ending, but I do think the movie is better.
This book is about Stanley Yelnats, a kid with a name that is the same forwards and backwards. It all starts with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and a misunderstanding about a celebrity's shoes. Then the action starts when Stanley is sent to reform camp and a mystery about buried treasure unravels. In my opinion, this is one of Sachar's best books.
Holes was a shiver down the spine book in my opinion it has a really good connection with real life and seems like it could have happened even though it fiction. I would recommend this book to alot of people and if you read it make sure to watch the movie 99% like the book.
This book is all started by palindromic Stanley Yelnats' no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather! He is forced to dig holes every day at a reform camp after a misunderstanding with some shoes and an orphan. He unravels an intriguing mystery involving treasure.
I loved this book! The ending was my favorite part! The lizards are my least favorite part...gross!! I would hate to dig holes in that heat everyday.
This story actually takes place in three parts, in three different times. The main story is about Stanley Yelnats IV, a 14-year-old boy. Stanley comes from a relatively poor family; although his family works hard-they blame it on Stanley's "no-good-dirty-rotten pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather". Of course Stanley has his own share of misfortune. Most recently, he is convicted of stealing shoes belonging to "Sweet Feet" Livingston. His sentence-Camp Green Lake, a juvenile disciplinary facility. Stanley has high hopes, but when he arrives at camp, he is less than thrilled. Turns out there isn't a lake at all, and the campers are forced to dig a 5 by 5 hole to build character-although Stanley suspects they are really on a treasure hunt. As Stanley navigates the social struggles of camp, there is also danger and adventure-and Stanley will soon find out that Camp Green Lake has connections to his past. The second part of the story takes place during the 19th century, when Stanley's said grandfather lives-Elya Yelnats. Elya falls in love with a beautiful girl named Myra Menke, and goes to his old friend Madame Zeroni for help. The third part of the book is the story of Kissin Kate Barlow, a famous outlaw who once lived at Camp Green Lake. The book is not distinctly separated into three parts, but alternates between all the stories. I really liked this book, there were so many twists and turns, and when you analyze-foreshadowing. I loved all all three parts of the story weave together. I recommend this book to adventure and realistic fiction fans. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
Holes was exciting and pretty tense. I like when Stanley Yelnats blames everything on his "no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather." I liked it because everything turns out good but it starts not so good. It had adventure and friendship and it was just plain fun for me.
