I read Boy21 by Matthew Quick. Boy 21 is a realistic fiction book. The topics addressed in this story are basketball, grief, family, love, and friendship. Finley the main character has a love for basketball and is the starting point guard for his team. Russ, a basketball star, is moving to Finleys school to live with his grandparents because Russ’s parents died. Russ and Finley become friends, they face multiple problems as friends including jealousy, love, and Russ’s weird obsession with his parents and outer space. Finley has a girlfriend named Erin who tries to help Russ and Finley but they end up facing problems. Finley learns not to be selfish with his skill and love for basketball and his girlfriend. This story was well written but the problems that the characters face are dragged out for a bit too long. This was a good read and I would say a ⅘. I would recommend this book to my friends who have a love for a sport. It would be really relatable for them. - Caroline
