Hey guys! I am DOOMED. Next year I will be a 4th grader. The math, especially the multiplication is just intimidating. I heard it would go up to 4 digits. And in the middle of the year, they are going to evaluate for the gifted program. (Not scared about the math itself, but whether the time is enough to master the subject.) Anyone who is a current 4th grader or already went through 4th grade? The topics just seem on another level
Don't worry about it! Really! It's intimidating at first, I won't lie but once you get it down (which just takes time and practice) you'll probably love it and automatically do it without even blinking an eye. Even though I'm going into my sophomore year (10th grade), I totally get looking at the next year (Spanish, Algebra 2, reading Julius Caesar 😨) and thinking, "Gosh, I can't do it!" but you can! You really can! I think everyone here can relate to a moment when we thought that something was too hard but can look back and realize that it wasn't anything to worry about. Just remember: nothing is impossible; the word itself says "I'm possible" (Audrey Hepburn...such an icon!). Also, remember to have fun! Math has become so much more fun for me when I stopped worrying about it and overthinking it. Just listen to your teacher, study with friends, practice in your spare time, and take good notes during class. This might sound silly but sometimes the best way to know if you're getting something down is pretending to teach it. When I was in 4th grade, I would take all my stuffed animals and do a little pretend class, "teaching" them but also testing myself. It helped me have fun while getting good practice in. I really hope this helps and I just know you're going to do great!

I’m in 7th, almost 8th, right now and trust me it’s not too scary at all! Hardly an upgrade math-wise from 3rd grade. And the gifted program is basically just a bunch of puzzles and brain games :D Sometimes you might try new math like algebra, but none of it is graded (at least where I live) and it’s super fun!
Lol, don't worry, I'm way past fourth grade, and it's not that bad. It seems scary at first, but definitely you'll look back and be like hey, that's not that bad.
Well, I'm sure you'll not be doomed! I'm in 7 grade now and I went through 4 grade too. I've heard many people saying that the math is very hard. Multiplication is a challenge but if you can start practicing from now, you'll do great! For me, the only problem is that I'm not careful. If you can be careful with the numbers, you can master it, even if there are 4 digits. I will suggest you that you can start learning a bit of it everyday if you are so scared. You can solve 2 or more questions a day to keep up. I'm sure you'll have enough time to be prepared. Good luck- hope this helps!
Hi hdarzaine! As a 7th grader, I know what it feels like when the math jumps into a whole new world. One way I got over it was to study all the math for next year during summer break. (which I am doing right now) So when school starts, I am ready to ask questions about parts where I still don't understand. For me, this is what I do to keep my brain busy and ready. (probably reason why I am a Ravenclaw lol) I hope this helps!

I totally understand, it always feels daunting when you start a new topic, but don't fret, because practice makes perfect :) Soon, you'll find it easy-peasy! I'd recommend just drilling through related problems to get familiar with them, and Khan Academy is a great platform (also has a YouTube channel). You got this 100%!
Already went through 4th grade and you're a year younger than one of my best friends. Don't worry, I don't think that you struggle with math, considering yourself not being scared or nervous, but you have enough time. It's going to be a little tricky at first, but after the first month or two, you're going to start getting it all memorized, so no need to be intimidated. And also, basic multiplication, is just adding a number to itself, twenty times, for example. When you get to powers (which is just a number, with a small number on its top right), it'll be that number, times ITSELF, which is again, just adding that number to itself however many times, and honestly, it's not that much harder. So don't worry, you'll get it, I believe in you!!

@ countrybumkin how did you get the blond and the brown hair for you user photo?
If you have a touch screen on your computer (if you are on your smartphone, this applies, of course), and if you zoom in, you can see some of the pink background. The hair color is glitching. Of course, it isn't her fault, it's the loading system's fault. If we could get two colors, I would add an even lighter blond, and darker brown, to replicate my hair better.
