Mixed Me: a tale of a girl who is both black and white
By Tiffany Catledge
(Mom's Review) I loved this book. I met the author at the Orange County Children’s Book Festival and loved that I found a perfect children’s book about me, “Mixed Me.” I am part Japanese, Black, White, and Native American. So I grew up hearing the question, “What are You?” My response usually was “I am a girl, what are you?” The book is so well written and has a beautiful message for all young children of mixed heritage. It was a book that I could share with my 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son, who are even more mixed than me. I also love that the illustrator is a young artist also of mixed heritage. Definitely a great book that would be a great addition to any elementary school library!
Animal Ark: Celebrating our Wild World in Poetry and Pictures (National Geographic Kids)
By Kwame Alexander, Mary Rand Hess, Deanna Nikaido
Disclaimer: I received this book in a giveaway from DogoBooks. My siblings and I all really enjoyed the pictures in this book, although none of us were fans of the poetry or the Nature-Instead-of-God perspective. The photographs are gorgeous, though.

When the three are united by accident, a prophecy tells that they are descendants of the fearful Gorgon Medusa--each posesses a power of one Gorgon sister. The three, armed with powers such as autoporting, visioning, and more, are destinied to find the secret door that seperates Mount Olympus, the human realm, and Abyssos--the abyss.Full of excitement, this book had me obsessed as soon as I got it.All fans of Percy Jackson should read this touching, heartwarming story about three united sisters, mythical creatures, love, and death.
Tisha's Kingdom: A story of adventure and friendship between a boy hunter and his dog.
By Suzanne Colts
I liked this book a lot. It was about a very smart, good dog and a boy going hunting to a lot of really cool places. They hunted after a lot of different kinds of birds in scary and interesting places. Many times the dog saved family members and was just such a sweet dog. My favorite part was how Tisha saved the sister from her mean neighbor. I like this book a lot because I love dogs and I like to hunt too.
