Kids Books - Science Fiction

I grabbed this book from the shelf at my library because the title was captivating and it was a Junior Library Guild Selection. It had to good, right? Wrong. This book turned out to be a sore disappointment. It follows the stories of three "littlepoors", who are tiny, about the size of a rat, and poor, named Warner, Prayer, and Usher. Warner and Prayer are siblings whose dad has recently died from being stepped on by a cat, and whose Mom is severely injured. They end up leaving their littlepoor neighborhood, attempting to "scale up" (get bigger by getting more munmun). They go on many adventures and change sizes several times. I stopped about halfway through because I got really bored, and I didn't want to know what other trash was in the middle. I skipped to the end, and the end was not very well written either. Overall, the book may be "a powerful look at wealth and class", but it's also boring, badly written, and not worth your time.

It all started with a quiet end-of-the-year field trip to Carlsbad Caverns. Not everyone was awake. Some wanted to go to Arizona instead. The trip took an terrifying twist when an earthquake hit the caverns, plunging the kids into unfamiliar territory, minus adults. Some kids are freaking out. Others are stepping up. No one really knows where to go. Meanwhile, Carlos, the 4th Midnight King, is shaken as well. He has just shown mercy to a trespassing Worm, and now the Mother has punished him for it. His father's shadow is looming over him, and he desires to escape it. He finally decides to go out into the underground forest to beg forgiveness from the Mother, and meets someone who will change him, his country, and their way of life. This fascinating book by Wesley King, Edgar Award Winner, shows us how kids really behave and interact when it matters. Find this Junior Library Guild at your local library or e-library.

read the book and I loved it since I was little

This was an interesting book about a number of universal topics: family, community, love and loss. In addition, it deals with finding your way in the world and figuring out who you are. What I liked most about the book is the setting--an imaginary island off the coast of New England--and the magic that exists in the lives of the characters.

The book was pretty good, exactly like the movie which was expected. The writing was alright but I've seen better.

I seen the cover and realized it was written by the writer of Coraline. I must read this book!

Rosi loves her Fred parents, even though she knows one terrible day she will have to return to her biologic parents. Then the day arrives. It comes out of nowhere. Kids scream and shout, and Rosi, being the oldest of all Fred children, has to help calm everyone. They get on a plane, the pilots are rude and inconsiderate, that should have been her first sign. They reach their destination, and they kids are one by one ripped away by their parents. Rosi and her brother Bobo are last to leave. Every parent is mean, and they physically hurt their children, for the littlest things. Rosi doesn't understand. Why are they so mean? Why is everyone with brown eyes so rude? Why is the city in ruins? Then she learns the shocking truth. This compelling, intricately written novel show exactly what family means and that someone may love you, but not know how to show it.

Zach King: My Magical Life is about a boy (Zach King) who comes from a family with magical powers. When he should be getting his magical powers, he hasn't. This leads him to believe that he might have been skipped, meaning he did not receive these powers. All members of the King family have been home schooled, but since Zach has not shown any magical abilities, his parents decide to send him to public school. At first he disagrees with this decision, but slowly comes to accept their choice. At Horace Greeley Middle School , he meets new friends, such as Rachael and Aaron. However, Tricia Stands ,the most popular girl in school, isn't as nice to Zach and his friends. Read the book to find out their plan to get back at Tricia, and how it effects them. I thought this book was good, but not amazing. It had it's funny events, but it didn't feel so unique. This book still makes a good read.

This was a awesome book! FULL of imagination, suspense, action, humor, horror, and adventure. Way to go Catherine Jinks. Great authors come great books.:)

why i decided to read this book is i read the back and i love scary story's and mystery's so i gave this book a chance and it turned out that i love it but make sure to read the series i am now on scardy kat i highly recomend this book and the series thank you
