Delirium (Delirium Trilogy)
By Lauren Oliver
Lauren Oliver brings a zesty, fresh, dystopian novel to the publishing world in her new book "Delirium" starring main protagonist Magdalena Haloway. With each chapter starting with an excerpt from the Book of Shhh, Lauren does an incredible job of establishing a futuristic world where love is viewed as a disease. Magdalena, or Lena for short, is a teenager who is about to be cured forever from having to experience amor nervosa deliria, the love disease. In the beginning, she counts down the days until her curing. But when a fluke cuts her cure short and reschedules it, Lena is in for a whirlwind when she meets Alex. If love is a disease, why does it feel so good? Maybe Lena understands her mother's suicide a little better after all. In this spellbinding part one of Lauren Oliver's trilogy, readers will not hesitate to purchase the next two books from the very first page.

The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence
By Stan Lee, Stuart Moore
The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence is, in one word, EPIC. Steven Lee is a remotely average kid living in America with family roots in China. He takes a class field trip to China, and while they're visiting a museum, he hears someone screaming distantly. Also, the group's tour guide is acting a bit... off. His instinct is to follow the sound, so he quietly sneaks off. Steven also notices the suspicious tour guide quickly walking away, almost as if she could hear the sound too, and Steven follows her. The noise grows the strongest at a blocked off basement door, and that's where the tour guide wrenches open the door and hurries down some steps. Steven timidly follows her. When he arrives at the end of the steps, he finds himself in a ginormous chamber-like room under the museum. But that's the last thing on his mind as he watches, spell-bound, at the streaks of power radiating from a strange man screaming that same awful scream. Steven quickly hides, but the strange people find him eventually. Turns out, the power coming from that man was one of the ancient Chinese Zodiac animal's powers. The tour guide (her name, as she tells Steven, is Jasmine) morphs into a dragon and the fights the man, who wants all the power for himself. Steven accidentally gets onto one of the power pedestals, and he suddenly has power radiating from him too, but he is a Tiger, Steven soon finds out that the strange power has been spread across the earth, and different people will suddenly get power alike to his. Jasmine and Steven take off on a trip across the globe hunting down the other people the Zodiac power affected so they can convince them to come onto their side, the good side, and not go with the bad man to the bad side, This man only wants to take their power for himself so he can rule the world. Can they do it? This book is full of adventure, action, and comedy. I loved Disney's Zodiac Legacy: The Convergence and I love how the story shaped and continued. The characters were also phenomenal! I could feel their rage, happiness, and pain as I read this incredible book. I recommend it for kids 10+ because it can get a bit violent sometimes. READ IT, THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC!
Journey through Ash and Smoke (Ranger in Time #5)

The Beast (The Darkdeep)
By Ally Condie, Brendan Reichs
After finally getting the Darkdeep under control (or so they thought), Opal, Emma, Logan, Tyler, and Nico realize that there's more to Still Island and the houseboat than meets the eye... Opal starts hearing a weird voice in her mind, directing her and telling her what to do next, and Opal just KNOWS that it's the green alien-like blob Thing in a Jar. As the 5 friends discover more and more about their jobs as Torchbearers, things just get crazier. It's the season of Halloween in Timbers, and with the chilly weather and pumpkin spice lattes, tourists are drawn in by the town legend of the Beast. And not just tourists. A low-quality YouTube series is in town, hoping to capture footage of the Beast and film interviews with kids in town to gain fame and fortune. When the Torchbearers find out that the legendary Beast is REAL, they have to do everything they possibly can to stop the camera crew -and the rest of the town- from finding him or the other figments that have been running rampant with no end in sight. Will the Torchbearers be able to wrangle all the figments into place? Where is Thing in a Jar from, anyway? And why is the tide turning red right outside Still Island and the newfound yet mysterious Rift? I really really really loved this book! One thing I would recommend is reading the first book in the series, "The Darkdeep," before reading this sequel. If not, it's easy enough to pick up, but I did find it helpful to read the first book! It was as fantastic as this book was! I loved how the alternating perspectives switched between Opal and Nico, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book! I would totally give this book 5/5 stars, and I recommend this series to anyone looking for a spooky Halloween-y mystery series to read this fall! Double thumbs up!
