Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Collins delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

Is it that good? our teacher wants us to choose a book for book report of 6th grade and I am dieting for a recommendation of a book

The Hunger Games is a amazing book, truly the best way to get into adult/teen fiction. With a awesome plot and a very good storyline, Suzanne Collins has outdid herself with this book. Starting a new series to a page Turner and a gruesome and eventful book. The Hunger Games takes place in the late 21th century. In a country of dictatorship, and a hard and shallow life. 24 tributes from 12 districts must compete for their lives. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark will experience the time of their lives, with suspense, drama, and a unconditional case of love, will they make it through the Hunger Games know that blood will be shed, lives will be lost, and knowing that the power of the Captiol can over come them, do they choose to play by the rules, choose to find their own path. Will the 74th Hunger games be enough for the Captiol's satisfaction? Well find out in Suzzane Collins novel: The Hunger Games.

The best part of the book by far is the ploy twists. The short little one sentence chapter enders that leave you wanting more. The end of part one is a perfect example. It establishes a fake relationship between Katniss and Peeta that slowly turns real. The only thing stopping Hunger Games from getting a five star review is the ending I just found it lacked that classic Hunger Games "oomph." that I love. This would be a bigger problem if this was teh final book, but I'm assuming "Catching Fire" will pick back up on Susan Collin's suspenseful masterpiece. Overall, I appreciated the book for its delicious darkness and ability to somehow retain constant suspense.

OMG sooo good! It is pretty gory but 👍 for older readers!
