In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Collins delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

i thank this book is o n e of the books i e v e r r e a d
THIS BOOK IS THE BEST!!!!!!! First of all, a girl named Katniss Everdeen has a mother and sister named Prim (as in Primrose). This book kinda takes place in the future. It's called Panama (it as in the United States). Panama is divided up into 12 districts. Katniss and her family live in District 12, the poorest district. Every year, all of the districts have what is called The Hunger Games. This is were one boy and one girl from ages 12-18 must enter their names in the Hunger Games. When Prim (age 12) gets picked, Katnis can't bear her being in the Hunger Games, a game of killing until there is only one left. Katniss (age 16) took Prim's place and entered the Hunger Games. A boy from the same district as Katniss kinda falls in love with her<3. This book is fasinating, exciting, adventurous, and breath-taking. My nly suggestion is to read the book!!!!!
I sat down to this book prepared to be captivated in its pages. But I was disappointed. I was always expecting that finally the author would show her genius and knock me off my feet. But it never happened. Yes, it was exciting and entertaining. But it wasn't a truly great book. I could not stop comparing this to Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Like Fahrenheit 451, it was a dystopian novel set in the future, but Fahrenheit 451 had significant symbolism on every page, paragraph, and even half the book. ~SO THIS IS WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT~ THE HUNGER GAMES is a fantastic, breathless and somewhat brutal read that once you start you simply can’t put down again. Initially I had no idea what this book was about or what to expect in terms of YA writing, it had just been recommended to me by so many people and had such a buzz surrounding it that I had to find out for myself why. Well let me say I was not disappointed and have now joined the legions of Suzanne Collins fans in awaiting her next insta This book was recommended to me after I read Unwind by Neal Shusterman and although maybe it is not as emotionally affecting as Unwind, I still think it is a fantastic book. The story has just the perfect combination of action, drama, and romance. It has a great message that you can stay human even in the most inhumane conditions. Needless to say, I am anxiously awaiting the sequel. I am sure even greater things are to come in the next book
