Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Collins delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

I absolutely loved this book and I recommend it to anyone and everyone. It's completely addictive and an amazing book! I just hope nothing like this could ever happen...

this is an awesome book! it has a lot of action. if you like epic tales this is the book for you!it takes place many years later. it is about Katniss, a girl who took prim, her sister, place in the hunger games.she has to fight to the death in an arena, alone.

I think that this book I one of my very favorites! It is amazing! It is a science fiction book, with some romance in it too, and action. This book is about a young woman, whose name is Katniss, and she has to participate in a show called the Hunger Games. It is when a child (from ages 12-18) goes to an arena and fights for their life, while people watch.

The Hunger Games North America, many years in the future has evolved into Panem, a country that is divided into 12 districts and ruled by the Capital. Each year one boy and one girl is chosen to compete in the hunger games, a game created by the Capital to show the districts how powerful they are. The games are comprised of twenty-four participants whom compete in an arena, fighting to their death. The last one standing, wins. When Katniss Everdeen volunteers to participate after her younger sister Prim is chosen to compete, she is shipped away from her friends and family to the Capital to be prepped for the games along with Peeta, the other participant from her district. Their mentor, Haymitch is the only surviver of the hunger games from district 12. Unfortunately, he spent his winnings on alcohol and is very drunk. Since he is no longer any help to her, Katniss finds herself trying to survive on her own. Soon the time approaches for her to enter the arena and the games begin...
