This book is really mysterious and sometimes intense. You can already see from the cover of the book, if you look closer, it's a girl that is levitating, black and white, that already gave a little introduction of the story. So, it started of with a boy name Jacob Portman. His grandpa always tell him stories and show him photographs of his fantasy childhood. He was grown in an orphanage with peculiar children, which have superpowers, and stuff like that. He fought in wars, served in circus, all of the stories that he told sounds very interesting but also unrealistic. Jacob believed in him when he was still a child, and idolised him, but this stopped when Jacob grew up and realised that it can't be true. One day, he found his grandpa dead in a forest, killed by a monster, and his last words led him to a mysterious island. In his journey, he'll find out that everything his grandpa said were true. I really like this book, because instead of a bunch of words, there are a several photographs that are very vivid. I got really into this book, there are a lot of climax in this story, I will not get bored by reading this. Looking forward to it's next episode!

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children", an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here - one of whom was his own grandfather - were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow - impossible though it seems - they may still be alive. A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

LOVE this book it's one of my fave books of all time it paints detailed pictures in my mind, best book
I love this book! This book is about a boy named Jacob Portman on an island learning he's peculiar (unusual) and can see monsters just like his Grandpa. His Grandpa died because a hollowgast (or a wight) had killed him and since Jacob's dad had locked his grandfather's weapons safe, all Jacob's grandpa had a a weapon was a letter opener. Jacob found Miss Peregrine ( a ymbryne) and told her everything. Now since Miss Peregrine can't turn back in to a human (from a bird), Jacob and the other peculiars have to find others of Miss Peregrine's kind to save her. And now he has to tell his Father (who doesn't know anything about this) EVERYTHING! His father thinks he's dreaming and when a few of the peculiars come to show them their talents. He still thinks he's hallucinating and goes to room and lies down. While he does that, a peculiar named Emma, writes him a letter and a adds a picture of her and Grandpa Portman when he was still at the orphanage. Then the peculiars and Jacob leave for a tragic journey and discover hidden secrets. Read in the next book in the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children Series (MPHPC): Hollow City. Have Fun!!
yea so far the second book is like so cool! Wait how many books are in the series?
I read this book recently and thought it was very interesting. It has a lot of Mystery and action throughout the book. I've never read or heard of a book like this. The main theme about this book was that there were people called peculiar, and Jacob's grandfather was one of them. I found the book was very thrilling other then the beginning and up to the part were Jacob's grandpa was killed. I rate this book a 4.8 out of 5 because I really enjoyed it and I kept wanting to read more. I will be reading the second book, in the series, as soon as I finish the one I am currently reading.
BEST BOOK EVER!!!
Don't you just love the kinds of books that create a movie in your mind? "Miss Peregrines home for Peculiar Children" by Ransom Riggs is definitely one of those books! This book takes place during world war ll, at miss peregrines home. A boy named Jacob was only a kid when his grandfather told him stories about the children, Jacob didn't believe him though he thought they were fairy tales even after he saw photographs. His parents had convinced him that it was all made up. Jacob's dad never really connected with the grandfather because he was never home when Jacob's dad was a kid. His aunt and father though that there might be another girl. Jacob works at a store that runs in the family, that was his future...Until his grandfather has a major breakdown and ends up dying. His last words were "September third, 1940." Jacob was so impacted by his grandfather's death he has to see a psychiatrist. Dr. Golan was his name, he was also the antagonist in the story, read the book to find out why! The protagonist is Jacob because he is the main character and doesn't give up until he gets answers. After a while of nightmares about the death of his grandfather and seeing Dr golan, Jacob finds a letter. The letter was from miss Peregrine. Jacob does so much searching until he comes to a conclusion (with the help of golan) to go to the island of where the house was to find miss Peregrine and get some answers. Are the children real? Is miss peregrine even real? Read this weird yet exciting book to find out, I highly recommend it!
I was shopping at Barnes and Noble when I got this amazing book. The cover is what captured my eye, so I skimmed through and saw amazing pictures that seemed to work great with the words! I bought the book and when I began, I couldn't stop! Great book, please read!
This book is a chilling tale about a boy named Jacob who wants to learn more about the deep, dark past of his grandfather. This adventure takes him to to a small island where he finds the roots of his grandfather's past. This creepy story will make you never want to put the book down. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in mystery and/or supernatural thrillers.
This book was one that I could not put down. It was a very captivating book with lots of detail that made you, the reader part of the story. I recommend this book to anyone who is a mystery lover and thrill seeker. This book was one of my favorite books of all time.
It was really disturbing, to tell the truth. It was creepy, with weird photos, odd happenings, and peculiar children. I read it because it was required by school, but it was better than I thought. But what really scared me was a picture of a girl, one girl, standing at the edge of a pool, and in the pool reflection, there were TWO girls, standing side by side. Creepy, right?
I agree it was really creepy but the old photographs like the one you talked about were super creepy but really cool
