This first book in Veronica Roth's #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy is the novel the inspired the major motion picture starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet. This dystopian series set in a futuristic Chicago has captured the hearts of millions of teen and adult readers.

Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games and Maze Runner series, Divergent and its sequels, Insurgent and Allegiant, are the gripping story of a dystopian world transformed by courage, self-sacrifice, and love. Fans of the Divergent movie will find the book packed with just as much emotional depth and exhilarating action as the film, all told in beautiful, rich language.

One choice can transform you. Beatrice Prior's society is divided into five factions—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice must choose between staying with her Abnegation family and transferring factions. Her choice will shock her community and herself. But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she's determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous.

And don't miss Veronica Roth’s thrilling novel Carve the Mark.

This is a absolutetly amazing book! If youv'e read love The Hunger Games Series, you'll be sure to love this novel. I fell in love with the characters( especially Four,or Tobias) you should definetly read this book if you haven't already!~kb<3

I've read it five times!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, my friends are ALWAYS talking about this book, and I decided to read it so that I would know what they were talking about. I also liked the design on the cover, contrary to the saying 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. Instead, I actually do. I also liked the ideas of the factions that my friends were talking about. I COMPLETELY recommend this book. Read it! :)

Best books ever written! This book is amazing and i can't wait till the third comes out! You should definetly read it!!!

I love this book along with The Hunger Games, Starters, and Matched. I love the storyline and how the romance is there, but isn't the main point. I also agree with Cupcake1555 that Erudite and Amity are my favorite factions.

Tell others why you decided to read this book and what you think about it.

Divergent is a beautifully written novel with much action and deep meanings. Woven altogether by descriptive, powerful words, it is hard not to enjoy this book. Told from a strong heroine’s point of view, we realize flaws in everything and that not everything claimed to be perfect is what it seems. Roth shows us the meaning of who we truly are and no matter what others may say; our own judgment is what is the most important. It reveals to us the power that individuals may have, not only the leaders. Every character, every person can make that difference in a society. With the addition of a bit of family, friends, and personal relationships, overall, this novel was a great read and thoroughly enjoyable.
