What follows is a long and frustrating journey with on-again, off-again braces, surgery, embarrassing headgear, and even a retainer with fake teeth attached. And on top of all that, there's still more to deal with: a major earthquake, boy confusion, and friends who turn out to be not so friendly.

Spoiler alert Smile in my opinion is a great book. it is a true story written by Raina Telgemeier. I believe that the plot is to teach people to not make make fun of people with headgear or braces. That is a very important topic. People need to know not to make fun of people because of stuff that they need. I can relate to this book because I need braces too. I didn’t always need braces either Raina and her teeth change through the story because she get braces a root, canal, headgear, and more. she falls one night going home from girl scouts. She eventually finds how to get her parents to get her things, get away with things, and let her do stuff. She wasn't always like this at the beginning` her mom wouldn't even let her get her ears pierced. Once she got her braces she could do anything because here parents had sympathy for her. I believe the author included why she needs her braces root canal and everything else. she wants us to go through the pain with Raina. All the pain that she goes through is sad but there's happy parts to. Those parts are there so the author can show you life is difficult for people with braces but it gets better. One time someone signed her yearbook and it said have a good summer vampire face. It shows you even when your sad you can get back up. I loved this book and you will too.

This book was so good! I love her style of illustrations, and the plot line is both funny, sad, and suspenseful all at once. The book is a true story about the author, which makes it even more amazing. If you like this book, check out the sequel "Sisters" or all her other books!

This book deserves that award and also the author's other books. Sisters is the second book in the series and Guts is the third one. FIY. I RECOMMEND THIS.

Smile is a great book about a girl named Raina and her adventures when she falls and both her front teeth fall out! She travels from the dentist, to the orthodontics, and back again, all the while trying to get ready to start high school in the fall! I really enjoyed this book and it was very fun to read!

Smile! When Raina accidently knocks out her teeth during a race with her friends, she didn't know how horrible the process of getting her teeth looking normal again will be! Middle school brings lots of new problems like mean friends and crushes not liking you. Live with Raina through highschool as she gets her teeth back, and realizes the struggles of growing up and sometimes, it's better to find new friends too. I LOVE THIS BOOK <3 the drawings are very cute too!
