This book was amazing! It's so hard to find books that capture your attention the moment you begin reading, but this book surely did!

Combined over 6.4 million people died in the Holocaust, Syrian War, And the Crisis in Cuba and thousands of Refugees fleeing to other countries trying to get their freedom according to the New York Times. Alan Gratz showed the ways people were treated and felt in all of these huge situations in history in this book combining 3 fictional characters and showing their journeys just how it happened in real life. All the characters in this story were fleeing their country Germany, Cuba, and Syria and they left for good reasons, saving themselves from extreme danger. Josef, Muhammed, and Isabel were all children when really bad stuff happened in their country making them flee to countries letting them in. Many people tried to hurt them and people like them in their era Fidel Castro, Cuban Police, Adolf Hitler, Nazis,Aleppo so many people just tried to hurt them and make them scared. Just a explanation on how bad it was Muhammads apartment got exploded, Someone's father got beat up by police it was terrible. Refugee was really cool. It had real events with fictional characters and people who like history with a little bit of fiction that were about 12 and up would love this book.

This book was amazing! I loved how each chapter would stop on an exciting part so you were anxious to read more! I also loved how everyone's point of view and time in the story later tied together!

Its about people who want to be free and able to walk without running aways from people that want to bring the back to Cube.

I love how Alan Gratz includes everything that had happened to these kids from Nazi Germany to sharks. I think he did an amazing job!

At times you almost feel like your in the book. Alan Gratz is an amazing author and I strongly recommend this book and all his others too!

This book is amazing! It is about three different kids escaping their home countries to freedom. Isabel, a Cuban girl, is escaping in a small boat with her pregnant mother on board. The boat is built by family friends that were willing to lend a helping hand. Mahmoud, a Syrian boy, is escaping by foot and boat. He goes through many hard times on his long journey to Europe. Josef, a Jew, is escaping Nazi, Germany with his mother, father, and little sister Ruthie. He goes through challenges regarding his father who was captured and taken to a concentration camp where he was scarred for life. I made a connection to this book because I have read other books by Alan Gratz and with similar war-like themes. I would give this book a five-star rating because it is so enticing and makes you want to keep reading. I would recommend this book to 5th-7th graders.

If you like adventure and people who go threw hard times read this book

Refugee is an awesome book to read. It was a heartbreaking story but it kept driving you into the book for another page. It was a real page-turner. Everyone should read this book at least one time in there life. The book also tells some history because the story that are in the book are all real. It shows us what it would be like to live in that age.
