As the German troops begin their campaign to "relocate" all the Jews of Denmark, 10-year-old Annemarie Johansens's family takes in annemaries' best friend, Ellen Roxen, and pretend she is part of the family. Ellen and Annemarie must htink quickly when three Nazi officers arrive late one night and question why Ellen is not blond, like her sisters. Through Annemaries' eyes, we see the Danish Resistance as they manage to smuggle almost the entire Jewish population, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. In this tale of an entire nation's heroism, Lois Lowry reminds us that there is pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.

I think Number the stars is a great book that kid my age can read and kind a understand what took place in World War2

Number the stars is a great book for people who read historical event books, Annemarie is the main character and the book takes place during World War 2. Ellen Annemarie's best friend moves in with them and Annemarie must act like the are part of their family to protect them. Annemarie is scared because of what she has to do to protect her best friend. I cried through the book

If you like to read about historical events, then this is a great book for you. It is about a young girl who lives during the Holocaust. She has to go through things that we would never imagine. She is limited to what she can do because of her religion. You will learn about the Holocaust, internment camps, and many other interesting things.

so amazing my sister (who is now in graduate college) read this in middle school but I read it in either third grade or fourth grade and I am in Sixth grade ( JUNIOR HIGH! )

LuLu LuLu

This book is touching.

The book Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is about ten year old Annemarie Johansen. At the time (1943) she lives in Denmark. The Nazis are in Denmark and spread across most European countries as of now. Her sister is part of a secret group that opposes the nazis and dies trying to save the Jews. Her best friend,Ellen, looks like her sister and pretends to be when threatened by nazis. This book is about the journey they take to get across the sea from Denmark to Finland where Jews are free. This is one of my all time favorite books and I recommend it to everyone. I didn't know I liked historical fiction when I picked up this book but now it is one of my favorite genres.
