When Nic, a slave in the mines outside of Rome, is forced to enter a sealed cavern containing the lost treasures of Julius Caesar, he finds much more than gold and gemstones: He discovers an ancient bulla, an amulet that belonged to the great Caesar and is filled with a magic once reserved for the Gods -- magic some Romans would kill for.

Now, with the deadly power of the bulla pulsing through his veins, Nic is determined to become free. But instead, he finds himself at the center of a ruthless conspiracy to overthrow the emperor and spark the Praetor War, a battle to destroy Rome from within. Traitors and spies lurk at every turn, each more desperate than the next to use Nic's newfound powers for their own dark purposes.

In a quest to stop the rebellion, save Rome, and secure his own freedom, Nic must harness the magic within himself and defeat the empire's most powerful and savage leaders.

Mark of The Thief is a very interesting book. This is book fills the category of fiction. Mark of the Thief is about a slave named "Nicolas Calva". He is a slave that works in the mines outside of Rome. His mother was sold to a family in Rome, his father got "struck by a lightning", and he has a sister named Livia(Which he risks his life in every chapter of the book to help her). General Radulf tells him to retrieve Julius Caesar's bulla and bring it back to him. At that cave, many problems happen, he fights a gryphon named Caela and then they both escape together with the bulla. As the story builds up, you will see how Nic meets Aurelia, Crispus, Valerious, etc. and how he changes from a slave to a civilian. Almost all of the book, he spends hiding and training with his bulla to control his magic and defeat General Radulf. Many things happen at the end that make you want to read the books that follow this one. In my opinion, this is a great story and you start to feel like you are deeply related to Nic and his suffering. I really guarantee that this book will kill your boredom and also teach you a lot of things the Romans believed back in ancient Rome. I hope you enjoy it as much as i did.

This book is a very good and fun book to read because it will keep you entertained it's about a boy who works in the mines that is send to a old cavern containing the lost treasures of Julius Caesar. there he found something more than just gold and gemstones, he discovers an ancient bulla an amulet that belonged to the great Caesar and is filled with a magic once reserved for the Gods magic some Romans would kill for. In my opinion this book bring memories like the one of the romans, Gods and warriors. You should read it, I guarantee that you wont get bored reading it its really fun. I hope you like it as much as I did.

When this book started, immediately I was brought back to one of my favorite book series: Gods and Warriors. (I almost thought I had accidentally picked up the Gods and Warriors book again.) But after the first chapter I realized that this was a whole different story. Nic finds the Bulla, which is filled with the overpowering magic bestowed by one of the gods–the question is: which god or goddess? Nic's wildest dreams comes true–along with some of his worst nightmares too. Another user of magic searches tirelessly for him and his bulla, seeking to harness the magic it contains. Who really are Nic's allies and enemies? Or is there really no difference between them? In this well-paced fantasy story, Nic is pitted against the beasts, magic itself, griffins, family, and the desires of his own heart. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel!
