i dont like it
Julia Alvarez makes characters and their experiences come alive. Told in 1st person point of view, I laughed and cried as 10 year old Miguel related life in a new town after his parent's divorce. Chapter 3 is a real gem angling internal & external conflict.
This was a great book about Tia (Aunt) Lola coming from the Dominican Republic to visit siblings, Miguel and Juanita, in Vermont. My favorite part was when Miguel and Juanita teach Tia Lola how to speak English. They make a lot of new friends with Tia Lola around.
Tia Lola, Miguel's aunt, comes for a visit to Vermont where he lives. She only speaks Spanish so Miguel and his sister have to learn Spanish to communicate with their aunt. I recommend this book because it is funny!
English Version is much better than the Spanish Translation. Very comparable to real family aunt visits.
