While designer creations are often described as 'magical' very few are as close to being magical as those created by Diana Eng, who integrates her knowledge of math, science and fashion to turn 'make believe into reality'.
The mathematician turned fashion designer recently held her first runaway show where she mesmerized her audience of designers, scientists and school children, with a collection, that truly sparkled, thanks to the electroluminescent wire trimming stitched into them.
Diana, who believes clothes should be interactive, integrated cutting-edge technology into her unusual designs. One of her dresses lit up to the sound of music, while another morphed from a silk cape to a hoodie. In keeping with her fairy-tale theme one even had magical butterfly wings. The best part was the grand finale, where a model strutting across the runaway, suddenly released several balloons which had been fitted with led lights.
Due to her unusual background, Diana believes that fashion design can be used as an educational tool to teach children about science, math and technology. She has created twelve videos depicting exactly how she went about mixing the various elements together, when she created her collection. Be sure to watch them all at: fairytalefashion.org.
